In the opening of Macbeth, Macbeth’s emotions portrayed in a positive way. He is described as a hero and loved by everyone. He is the thane of Glamis because he saved his people by defeating enemies in a battle. This gave him a high status made him known and also made him a respected person. At this stage in the story his emotions are full of excitement and happiness. He feels powerful and he feels he has made a great accomplishment by becoming thane of Glamis.
On the other hand. In the opening of A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is portrayed in the opposite way. He is hated in his town and known for his miserableness. Scrooge is shown as a person that dislikes communicating with others and does not like having fun. “I wish to be left alone”. this shows his personality and that he wants to be alone as always. It also creates a sense of loneliness and shows that he is uses to being alone. Scrooge is also described as a careless person. this is shown when the charity workers come to collect money for poor people on Christmas and Scrooge says that he wants the poor to die. “If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population”. Scrooge is also known to be rich. This shows he is stingy, selfish and rude. I think this because he has money but does not want to give it and also he is rude and careless because he said he wants the poor to die so the pollution reduces, which is also a benefit to him. At this stage of the story his emotions are moody, dull and he thinks he can do what he wants because he has power.
As the play goes on, Macbeth’s wife persuades him that the only way he will become king is if the current king dies, and Macbeth must do it. This creates more confusion for Macbeth because his wife is urging by attacking his manliness. “live a coward in thine own esteem”. She is saying he will be a coward if he does not kill king Duncan. This forces Macbeth to kill the king. In the scene his emotions are getting worse because he came from killing enemies and saving his people and now he is going to kill his king. this creates a sense of fear bnecause if he does not do it his wife will be upset, but if he does do it he will become a murderer.
